A New Khatsaturjan album.

Patience rewarded! Well, almost... Your Finnish prog-rocking friends have completed recording and mixing the third Khatsaturjan album under the working title "Disconcerto Grosso". Finally, one could say. Yet, all good things take time.

There was never a break in the functioning of Khatsaturjan. Plans and preparations and the actual work just advanced rather slowly. We were prepared for a long process, but I guess none of us expected it - ambitious as the album is - to take 25 months. Then again, it is a Khatsaturjan album - so to meet it's more or less symphonic standards you need to work thoroughly and in detail.

The sessions took off in February 2007. We'd been working on some of the compositions more closely in rehearsals in the previous year, while a few tracks were to develop compeletely during the recording process which went on until August 2008.

The mixing and mastering part that followed was partcularily demanding and at times exhausting as we again choose to produce without assistance from outside the band. Coming to March 2009 we decided "it's as ready as it gets", though you could always go on working forever.

Now we're however more than happy to announce that our hard work has materialized in a concrete product of 63 minutes of progressive music. The next step naturally is finding a publisher for the album - we aim for an official release shortly.

A familiar cast is responsible of making the new album as Khatsaturjan has made no changes to the original line-up of Koikkalainen-Kurri-Piispala-Saarikivi. Added to this we've also had the honour of working with two great guest musicians, a vocalist- violinist Matti Muraja and the Underwater Sleeping Society guitarist Tomi Tiittanen.

We've kept true to the distinctive Khatsaturjan sound introduced on "Sums" and "Simantipak" but at the same extended our territory when it comes to ideas of song writing and influences. The material on Khat Trick, we believe, covers a wide range of stylistic and emotional spectre and exhibits our manifold sources of musical inspiration. We hope that you'll all enjoy the upcoming album!
